There was a castle/ C'era un castello [Katy Godar, in memoriam; GC; 1977/ 2009]

There was a castle; a girl would lean on the balcony looking outside, dreaming about the world; she'd see the swamp stretching to infinity- with no birds over those black waters, with no grass but sick growths in the gloom. The sky got dark, then clear, slowly season followed season. A thin white mantle upon the sea, and later the sweetness of dawn. Beautiful ships passed by, charged full of gold and gems, with their sails of subtle colors to the wind; oars were lifted and lowered in time, songs were heard, she was happy. From the castle from the borders of time, watching the world she becomes slowly stone, and her headland well known inside the swamp (which does not exist), and new ships speak of her in the shining language of their flags, and the sky overhead now multi-colored, I tell a story.
